Nella was also a founder member of the Women of Malta Association – Nisa ta’ Malta. This association was founded in 1944 by some of the most prominent female figures on the Island. They lobbied for female emancipation and for the right to sit in the National Assembly. She was also ahead of her time in wearing trousers, one of the first women in Malta to do so!
